Fashion For Every Body: Embracing Your Own Style

Fashion should be a celebration of your own style.  As part of understanding the importance to having your personal expression in style, it is equally important to understand and adapt to the diverse shapes of the human body.  Everyone’s body is unique, and understanding how to dress to complement one’s shape can bring out confidence and best features.

Whether you have an hourglass figure, an apple shape, or a pear shape, there are fashion tips and tricks to help you look and feel your best!

Hour-Glass Figure

The hour-glass figure is characterized by a well-defined waste and balanced proportions between the bust and hips.  If you are blessed with the hour-glass figure, the key is to emphasize curves while maintaining balance.  You might want to choose form-fitting dresses and tops that highlight your waistline, such as a wrap dress or a belted style.  A-line skirts and tailored blazers will complement your look, creating a polished and sophisticated style.

Apple-Shaped Body

The apple-shaped body is characterized by a fuller midsection and narrower hips.  With this body style, the goal is to draw attention away from the waist and toward other areas of the body.  Choose tops with a V-neck or scoop neckline to elongate the torso and create a more balanced silhouette.  Flowy tops and dresses that skim over the midsection can create a more flattering, feminine shape, while structured jackets and high wasted bottoms can give more definition to the waistline.

Pear-Shaped Body

If you have a pear-shaped body, this means you have a smaller bust and wider hip.  It’s important to accentuate the upper body while balancing out the proportions.  You might want to choose tops with embellishments or patterns to draw attention upwards, such as statement sleeves.  A-line skirts and wide-leg pants can help balance out the hips, while fitting tops or jackets can highlight the waist.

Regardless of your body shape, it’s important to celebrate your unique body style.  Fashion is about expressing yourself and feeling confident in your own skin, so don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles until you find what works best for you.

“Fashion is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”  Rachel Zoe

Remember that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. You should wear what makes you feel comfortable and empowered!  So, embrace your curves and let your personal style shine bright for the world to see!
